Description PhD programs

Our PhD programs are designed to build a solid foundation in molecular and cell biology and are based on individual research projects that last 3 years, working with a specific principal investigator.

The IGB regularly organizes internal seminars in which the PhD students can present their on-going projects, training in becoming effective communicators in science. They can also take part to several coursework and Research Seminars given by internationally-renowned guests as well as meetings such as PhD Retreat, where students can relate among them and critically analyse their data. Yearly, each student must submit a report to present his/her progress and, in addition, students have compulsory annual meetings, called PhDays, with a Thesis Committee, that gives constructive criticism and feedback.

Institute of Genetics and Biophysics (IGB), Institute of Protein Biochemistry (IBP) and Institute of Biostructure and Bioimaging (IBB) host a Joint PhD program in Biomolecular Science with the Second University of Naples (SUN).

The IGB also coordinates a novel international PhD program (INCIPIT) which aims at providing innovative multidisciplinary and intersectoral training in Life and Biomaterial Sciences. INCIPIT pools the different and complementary expertise of 8 research institutes of the National Research Council of Italy (CNR), as well as the competencies of 2 Doctoral Schools and several academic, non-profit and industrial Partner Organizations.

The INCIPIT programme is ready to welcome 35 young brilliant foreigner students.
