Research Interests/
The scientific interest of Dr. Bardoni is focused on physiopathology of intellectual disabilities. The main subject of her scientific activity is the characterization of FMRP (Fragile X Mental Retardation Protein), whose absence causes the Fragile X syndrome, the most diffused form of inherited mental retardation. FMRP is an RNA-binding protein playing a role in different steps of RNA metabolism: nuclear export, translational control, dendric/axonal transport.
During the last few years she focused her studies on the characterization of partners (proteins and RNAs) of FMRP, with the purpose to better understand its function through this approach. More recently, she also addressed her effort to the identification and characterisation of pathways involving FMRP function in adult neurons and during brain development with the purpose to pave new therapeutic treatments for this syndrome.
Dr Bardoni is the author of 58 peer-reviewed publications, 8 invited review and 4 book chapters
