Luigi Lania started his scientific career in molecular genetics as undergraduate student at L.I.G.B. 50 years ago. As post-doc he spent four years (1977-1982) at Imperial Cancer Research Found, London, then he moved, as visiting scientist for two years (1985-87) at the NYU Medical School New York, working in the fields of viral oncogenes. In 1988 he joined the Dept. of Genetics of University of Naples and in the early nineties he become professor in Genetics. Then he served as Chairman of the Dept. of Genetics and Director of the PhD program in Genetics. In 2013 he joined the Dept. of Molecular Medicine and Medical Biotechnologies, Medical School. His major interests have been the molecular mechanisms in gene transcription mediated by dedicated transcription factors. Then he focused his attention to unveil the molecular mechanisms that recapitulate important steps in gene expression such as initiation, elongation and more recently epigenetics dynamics.
