Welcome to the IGB 50th Anniversary Website

The IGB 50th Birthday

A half century ago, the International Laboratory of International Genetics and Biophysics was created by its first Director Adriano Buzzati-Traverso, a pioneer in the research and teaching of Genetics, with the ambitious aim of starting and accomplishing research in a then nascent scientific field, Molecular Genetics. The Laboratory was funded through a 5-year agreement between the CNR, the National Committee for Nuclear Research and the European Atomic Energy Community. Soon after, the Laboratory, to date named Institute of Genetics and Biophysics Adriano Buzzati-Traverso, became one of the first Institutes of the CNR. Faithful to the original vision, today the IGB is committed to face the challenges of frontier biology. Strongly projected into the future, the present mission of the IGB is also to encourage future generations of researchers to explore, learn and innovate in all the scientific fields that have sprouted from the original area of genetics.

To celebrate IGB 50th Anniversary, a series of events have been organized and scheduled throughout the year 2012, starting with the 1st March Symposium. This website intends to be not only a showcase but also a container for all the initiatives to be taken to the anniversary celebrations.

Happy Birthday IGB!
