Our laboratory at Institut Pasteur has been interested in stem cell biology and the development of the immune system. We contributed to the characterization of subsets of hematopoietic progenitors in fetal liver and to the description of the role of hematopoietic cytokines in lineage commitment. We identified newly generated hematopoietic stem cells, in the first hematogenic compartment, the dorsal aorta. We identified the cells that colonize the thymus and their functions in generating different T cell subsets and in modulating the thymic epithelial compartment. We are currently analyzing the composition of the stromal cell compartment in the fetal liver that supports embryonic hematopoiesis.
