Population Genetics and Genetic Epidemiology

Keywords: Bioinformatics, Genetic epidemiology, Complex Traits, Founder Populations

My research is focused on bioinformatics challenges related to the analysis of exome and whole genome sequence data and the use of different imputation approaches of untyped markers using both array-based and sequence-based reference panels. Also, part of my research activity is devoted to optimizing methods of data integration and implementation of specific computational tools that allow fine-scale characterization of genetic variation and make the search of susceptibly loci successful, in particular via whole-genome-wide association analysis approaches.

Teresa Nutile is Technologist Research Council of Italy at Institute of Genetics and Biophysics "A. Buzzati-Traverso" (IGB-CNR) of Naples, Italy. She obtained a degree in Information Sciences at University of Salerno “UNISA” in 2001. She got a PhD in Genetics and Molecular Medicine, University Federico II, Naples - Italy in 2009 working on Data Mining for the genetic study of complex traits in isolated populations of Cilento. As postdoc at IGB-CNR she acquired expertise in bioinformatics and biostatistics. She was visiting Researcher in two laboratories of Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, Hinxton, Cambridge, UK: Analytical Genomics of Complex Traits group led by Eleftheria Zeggini and Genome Informatics group directed by Dr. Richard Durbin. In these periods, she acquire the skills needed to manage the sequence data. Since 2002 she spent her time research in the Genetics of Complex traits laboratory at the IGB-CNR and she manage the database of the “Genetic Park of Cilento and Vallo di Diano” project, one of the largest genetic epidemiology studies in Italy on isolated populations. She is member of several International Consortia for genome-wide association in population-based.
