Molecular Oncology

Research projects in Molecular Oncology are focused on multiple aspects including cancer genomics, transcriptional, epigenetic and post-transcriptional mechanisms of oncogenesis, cancer cell proteomics, tumor-associated cell migration, and angiogenesis. Research lines involve: I) studies on transcriptional processes aim at deciphering the role and regulation of nuclear oncoproteins in epithelial-mesenchymal-transition and metastasis; II) post-transcriptional studies addressed focusing on the regulatory roles of various classes of non-coding RNAs, Transcribed Ultra Conserved Regions (T-UCRs) and Alu transcripts; III) identification of novel biomarkers and therapeutic drugs for the diagnosis and treatment of human melanoma; IV) studies on cell migration and tumor-stroma interactions; V) studies on tumor angiogenesis aim at understanding the physiological and pathological role of VEGF family members and at the identification of new angiogenic players; VI) studies on molecular mechanisms regulating cytoskeleton and cell division in bone cancer development.
